New Zealand Academy of Fashion Design
was incorporated in April 2005 and has since experienced exceptional growth, the Academy currently hosts 20 classes per week, accommodating over 150 students. Small enough to know all our students by name we ensure you have the skills you need to succeed. We specialise in part time courses, so you can study for your Diploma while you work or go to school. Our diploma provides a platform for a future career in fashion. We encourage work internship in the industry during term breaks so the student can experience how the industry operates first hand. We encourage everyone to create fashion, real fashion for real people.
About Us
Marlene Kuba the principal has had over 35 – 40 years experience of teaching people to sew, both here and in South Africa.

Sunita Ovely has been involved with the Academy for the past 4 years as a student and graduate. She is now a director and assistant pattern making teacher. Sunita also achieved a Diploma in Fashion Design from India.

Pam Bestwick been involved with the Academy over the last 7 years and is now the marketing director and assists the tutors in pattern making and sewing.
Accreditation
The NZ Academy of Fashion Design in Albany has become the first Fashion Design Institute outside of the United Kingdom to receive the acclaimed PAAVQ-SET APD Level 3 in Advanced Technology (Garment Construction and Patternmaking) Diploma. This qualification enables students to work and study abroad.
